In honor of Women’s History Month, I want to spotlight some of my favorite women-owned businesses in the Denver area.
The Green Collective Eatery
My friend, Allison Rifkin opened her Green Collective Eatery just this month! With a focus on clean, wholesome eating, the menu offers a range of tasty and healthy options. A selection of yummy toasts with toppings like whipped goat cheese, pear, Colorado honey, and almonds pairs deliciously with one of their adaptogenic lattes (did someone say “mushroom hot chocolate?”). If you’re visiting for lunch, you can build your own salad and enjoy it with a steaming cup of bone broth, paired with a signature cold-pressed juice. Smoothies and smoothie bowls are also available for a satisfying and vitamin-rich meal. I’m all about the toast flights! Stop in for an unforgettable bite that is good for your body and soul.
Denver Picnic Co.
Do you love picnics but hate all the prepping, packing, and cleaning up involved? What if you could just enjoy a fabulous, seasonal charcuterie board, sip delicious wine, and watch the sun go down with someone you love? And when you were done, the mess would magically disappear and all you’d have to worry about was choosing from the hundreds of perfect photos you took to post on instagram. Enter Sofia and Kassi Beer, childhood friends who built their dream company in the Mile High City after a revelation at Jazz in the Park. After a disappointing picnic experience, they developed the Denver Picnic Co. Through their website, you can book a picnic fit for a queen, complete with comfy cushions, tables, and linens. I can’t imagine a better way to spend an afternoon in our beautiful city. Bonus: if you book through the end of March, you get $40 off your booking! Just use code SPRING40 at checkout.
Susan Hamilton founded Gracie’s in 2011 with the goal of “empowering women to look and feel their best.” She hand selects clothing and accessories from LA-based designers, focusing on looks that are both trendy and effortless. I am loving the flowy tops and dresses, and they have some killer leather jackets currently in stock. Susan does a fabulous job helping her customers find pieces they’ll fall in love with. If you’re anything like me, if it doesn’t look good on the hanger, I won’t try it on, but Susan has an eye – some of my favorite pieces from this store were items I passed on because I assumed they wouldn’t look good on me – delightfully I was wrong! Check them out in the Louisiana Pearl area, they have the perfect pieces to bridge Colorado’s snowy spring and hot summer.
The Vesta Collective
Vesta is a woman-led real estate group based in Denver. Athena Brownson, Laurel Broten, and my good football girlfriend, Shay Baillargeon, are all Colorado Natives whose love for their home state has manifested into an eye for finding, buying, and selling the most beautiful properties in the area. Appropriately, the name “Vesta” is a nod to the Roman Goddess of the home. Athena, Shay, and Laurel work carefully with each client to make their dream home come to life.
Lace Morris, Compass Realty
Lace is my good friend and another amazing woman in the Denver real estate scene. Lace sets herself apart because she never thinks of what she does as “selling.” Rather, she is intent on helping each client realize the dream of their perfect home. She holds her clients’ needs and desires above all else, and believes in being an honest and sincere broker.
I love a good workout, and a session at Transform Colorado certainly fits the bill. Beth Bedingfield was a trainer to the stars in Los Angeles before opening her studio here in Denver. She has focused her efforts for the last five years on the famous Lagree Method, a no-impact, high-intensity session that has sculpted Victoria’s Secret Models, movie stars, pro-athletes, and myself! If you’re shaking, you’re doing it right. The studio currently has two locations, one in RiNo and one in LoDo. You can find me here getting summer bod ready for pool season! 45 minutes of shaking and sweating can be found below, condensed into a 23 second time-lapse.
Apex Human Performance
Amberle Zuerlein is my good friend and workout buddy, and motivator. She is part-owner of Apex Human Performance, a functional fitness studio in Five Points. As a USA Certified Boxing Coach, she focuses on making the sport more approachable for men and women. Outside the ring, she holds a BA in Fashion Merchandising and has put her education to sultry good use in a line of lingerie, called Sweaty Seduction (give her a follow on Instagram).
Portia Owens is one of my best friends and a natural health and beauty expert. She has used her knowledge of plants and minerals to make Common Providence, a line of organic, natural beauty products. She handcrafts each product herself in small batches: serums, balms, facial waters, and a mineral powder that is perfect for post-workout hair and an athlete on the go. I am literally OBSESSED with her dry powder, I use it as dry shampoo. I love that each product is multi-use (more bang for your buck and conscious to the environment ). All her packaging is recyclable and the products are great for men, and children as well!
Owned by Chef Linda Hampsten Fox, the Bindery Eatery, Market, & Bakery is delicious any day of the week; but I go especially for weekend brunch. On the menu: cranberry corn waffles served with big belly bacon, chantilly cream, and real Vermont maple syrup. Need a little hair of the dog? Try their Breakfast Manhattan: house bacon infused scotch, sweet vermouth, maple, bitters (that’s what I’m drinking below). Food? How about a duck confit hash? That’s right: elegant duck confit with potatoes, plantains, poblano, zucchini, yellow squash, 2 poached eggs, and a lime Hollandaise sauce. That’s about the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard of.
Denver Shine Company
Marci Perry founded the Denver Shine Co. in 2016. Her family has been in the shoe shining business for many years, but Marci has added a mobile element to the process. She leads a team of professionals that will travel to events like trade shows, conventions, and business offices to buff and shine shoes. And shining is not just for dress shoes. Marci also polishes and repurposes sneakers. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship – it takes a lot for me to trust someone coming anywhere close to my J’s.
Hydrate IV Bar
Katie Wafer is the founder of Hydrate IV Bar, a medical spa that offers IV hydration therapy and vitamin injections. If you’re unfamiliar with IV hydration, the process is not as scary as it sounds! It is quite the opposite, in fact. While sitting in a comfy chair, listening to soothing music in a serene spa setting, a registered nurse places an IV that is hooked up to a bag filled with a replenishing blend of saline, vitamins, and minerals with various purposes in mind. It is excellent for recovery from an intense workout, traveling, or a long night out (and a few too many cocktails). If you haven’t got time for an IV, you can stop in for a quick B12 shot for an immunity and energy boost. Hydrate IV now has four locations in the Denver area, one in Boulder, and one in Fort Collins. Stop in to see how it works for yourself!
CLMBR, Christa Dellebovi
Christa Dellebovi Truxa is the Director of Training and Education for CLMBR, a Denver company aiming to release a vertical climbing machine that can be used at home in 2021. The CLMBR machine is designed for everyone, from athletes to casual exercisers. It is low impact, so it is perfect for individuals just starting to exercise or who are looking to get back into it after a long break. I have been taking a Rise Nation class with Christa and let me tell you, she’s one badass babe! I can’t wait to try the new machine out!
Viridian Beauty Lounge
Viridian is a full-service salon that does haircuts and color, lash extensions, facials, and brow-shaping. The team is made up entirely of talented women: Bailey Roberts, Alisha Mink, and Lacey D’Apice are master stylists; Alexa Mellot specializes in hair and lash extensions; Chante Rivera performs brow shaping and microblading. I, myself, go here for a spray tan! It is perfectly golden and natural-looking every time-no orange or smudging! If you want a perfect glow, ask for my girl, Lauren Ashley with Lauren Ashley Sunless Spa.
Leigh Ann Watson’s bakery is based out of Charlotte, NC, but she will be delivering her homemade treats to the Denver area frequently! Ooey, gooey deliciousness in the form of classics like Chocolate Chip, and some more unique options, like Strawberry Champagne cake truffles. YUM. Check out their Instagram page for updated information about when she’ll be making a trip to Denver!
RESTOR Medical Spa
Restor Medical Spa was founded by Dominique and Flora Waples MD in 2011. This dynamic sister-duo established Restor with one goal in mind: making aging optional. Their team consists of Denver’s best aesthetic nurses and aestheticians who will build a personalized treatment plan specific to your goals. They have two locations, one in Stapleton and their second location recently opened in LoHi (right next door to The Green Collective mentioned above). Whether you’re looking for a little boost or need to roll some years off the clock – Restor has you covered. Botox, laser hair removal, dermal filler, are just a few services they offer, but you can find a full list of services on their website here.
